DYFI ESTUARY GREY PLOVERS

Bob and I went to the pill box view-point this morning at high tide and before the weather deteriorated.  There was a good number of the usual wildfowl present but what was of note was the large number of Grey Plovers.
118 give or take just one or two was the number we settled on although a few more may have been hidden behind some Oystercatchers.
Looking through all the past Ceredigion Bird reports numbers of Grey Plovers were generally in single or low double figures with few exceptions. Most counts were from the Dyfi with a few from Llansantffraed and one or two from the Teifi estuary.
Last month Edward noted an exceptional 72 Grey Plovers at the Dyfi. The only 3-figure counts I could find in the Bird Reports were 115 at the Dyfi in December 1991 and 113 in September 1988.
So, today's count could well be a County record.
