Ynys-hir this morning

Harry and I met at Ynys-hir early this morning, hoping to track down a Lesser spotted Woodpecker.   Unfortunately it wasn't to be but after giving up on that elusive little critter we went on to have a very enjoyable couple of hours looking at other stuff.  At Marian Mawr we enjoyed a lovely breeding plumage Black-tailed Godwit. Moving on to the Saltings Hide, where Jerry Moore joined us we spotted an otter.  It was on the far side of the river and spent quite some time eating a fish it had caught.  We noticed that the poor animal had a bad wound, it looked like the end of its tail had been severed.  Later, as we made our way back to the car park we enjoyed singing Blackcaps and as we reached the crossroads Jerry thought he heard a Pied Flycatcher.  A few moments later Harry saw the bird and a few minutes after that Jerry and I also got great views of it.
