There was an autumnal nip in the air on the prom at Aberystwyth this morning. Chris had told me last night that there were many more gulls around than usual and looking out to sea I could see several hundreds. Of those within i.d. range the majority were Black-headed, with good numbers of Herring and at least 50 Kittiwakes.
Around 15 Sandwich Terns went past, and at one point there were eight on College rocks, along with three Kittiwakes and 85 Med Gulls.
A run up to Borth produced more Sandwich Terns; I estimated 30 plus between Upper Borth and Ynyslas turn, but not a lot else. All I could find on the flat calm sea was 21 Common Scoter and six Razorbills and in the distance a few Bottle-nosed Dolphins went south, with Gannets diving in around them.
