Mynydd Brith, Bronant

This is quite a large, privately owned area. I met a forestry consultant there, who told me that it had belonged to the Forestry Commission before being sold off in small lots. Though each owner has their own agenda and plans it seems that an ethos of sustainable management is prevalent throughout. In size and appearance it bears comparison to Cross Inn Forest. However, there was no clear felling going on, just small scale clearing and sensitive replanting, which created a very interesting mosaic of habitats. Despite the sunny weather the breezy conditions made it less than ideal for listening. Nevertheless, I located Willow Tits at 4 places and believe at least another couple of territories could be squeezed in, since there was lots of suitable habitat, so I shall return again in calmer conditions.
