Walking along the southern edge of the Mynydd Bach forest at about 300m ASL
north of Ystrad Meurig a Green Woodpecker flew up from a field to a mature Ash
in a gulley.
The field on a steep bank was being heavily grazed by Herefords,
looked ‘unimproved' and seemed to have some anthills, hence the
woodpecker?
Never seen one here before in 25 years. Also a Brambling in my
garden.
