Red-throated Diver
A completely unexpected and unseasonal Red-throated Diver was the highlight of a seawatch at Aberystwyth from 7:40 to 9:10 this morning. The bird was heading south close inshore, directly towards me, but instead of passing just off Castle Point as I expected, it continued straight on directly over my head and over the castle.
Offshore, almost everything else was also moving south: 220 Manx Shearwaters (plus 45 North), 11 Gannets, five Guillemots, one Razorbill, one Kittiwake and three Common Scoters (2n, 1s).
