One of my best ever days for Whimbrel. I counted a minimum of 232 as follows, and heard unseen birds flying over on a couple of occasions. First were 10 on the artificial reefs at Borth, along with seven Bar-tailed Godwits. Next were 85 on Ynys Tachwedd Fields and nine near the posts at Ynyslas. Three flocks totalling 94 came in off the sea at Ynyslas Turn. Finally, 34 on the Leri with 12 Bar-tailed Godwits and a Common Sandpiper.
Other odds and ends were four Red-throated Divers off Borth, three Golden Plover on Ynys Tachwedd and at least 170 small waders too far up the estuary for i.d. A single Sand Martin went through with a small Swallow passage.
