Wow - what a week. Two thousand visitors since we opened, goshawks, kites a hen harrier and at least five ospreys.Now things have settled down a bit, I think at least one osprey was passing through. Another two seem to be a pair and are showing well most days with other birds in the area possibly also. That leaves us one female which is calling the Dyfi nest home - I'm almost certain this is the same female as last year as she has very atypical dark orange colour eyes for an osprey. The plumage pattern on the carpal feathers and under wing coverts also look identical to last year's bird. None of the ospreys I've seen this week seemed to have any leg rings.
This afternoon we were a bit worried when the female returned to the nest as she seemed to have an injury to her left leg - see image above. Ospreys often have blood on their feathers from their prey of course, hopefully we'll know more tomorrow.
Other birds this week - lesser redpoll, chiffchaff, willow warbler, swallow, sparrowhawk and a hunting peregrine this afternoon over the reserve.
