Sightings at Ynys-hir
John, Harry and I met at Ynys-hir this morning hoping that the weather would be kind for our morning's birding. But it wasn't to be. It rained more or less from the moment we arrived at the visitor centre until we reached the Breakwater Hide. Once inside it rained even harder. All the same we did see some good birds - There was a Spotted Redshank with 56 Commons on the flooded field beside/behind the hide. A Knott was identified amongst 9 Bar-tailed Godwit. There were 53 Greenland White-fronted Geese, 175 Curlew, 14 Red-breasted Merganser and 2 pairs of Swallows flew by. We walked back via the woodland path through squelchy mud but no more rain. We heard a couple of Chiffchaffs on the way.
