Cross Inn Woods

I counted 12 Crossbills this morning, not just giving their flyby alarm call but singing in the trees as well. A few years ago in January I got within 6 feet of a new family of them drinking at a puddle so I hope to hear the pitter patter of tiny feet in the woods very soon.

Regarding a previous entry, I have also noticed that I haven't seen Stonechats at Cross Inn since the cold weather started. I just hope they move elsewhere. The number of Wrens also seems to be down. I did an 18 mile circular walk last weekend and notched up 46 species - but didn't see or hear a wren all day.

A Heron has just landed in my garden as I write this!

Next weekend's field trip is in Aberaeron. I may change my plans for where to walk so that we include  a stretch of the River Aeron looking for Goosander, Kingfisher and Dipper, as well as a stroll along the beach.
