Bryn Glas, Llanddewi Brefi

A site that has had Nightjars in the past though I didn't hear any when I tried last year. I popped up there this morning to see how it was looking. Another vast tract of conifers has been extracted since last summer. No matter how many times I see huge areas of forestry swept away it always looks shocking somehow and I wondered if the amount of daytime disturbance could be a problem for Nightjars even though large areas of suitable habitat are being created. A family of Crossbills with 4 or 5 juveniles sat obligingly close on some young trees and a Cuckoo was calling here and there. Other birds inc. Grasshopper Warbler, Redpoll and Tree Pipit.
Another Cuckoo was present yesterday at Rhos Glyn yr Helyg NR, Gorsgoch. Not far from there is a sand quarry and approx. 40 Sand Martins were hovering around the entrance holes.
