NANT Y MOCH

This is not a stretch of water that features very much on the blog or in the County Bird Reports, but today it proved to be of some interest. My group and I took the Nant y Moch Mountain Road on the way to the Ospreys at Cors Dyfi hoping that the weather would improve by the time we got there.
On the huge reservoir, normally fairly empty of birdlife, were 5 Great Crested Grebes, all adults. Next we came across 39 Canada Geese and one young bird, the sole survivor of two broods seen earlier in the year.

Nearby we heard a reeling Grasshopper Warbler and found it perched on the top of a Foxglove near the water's edge. If only Janet or Mike or Kev had been there with a proper camera to take a shot of this bird which was right out in the open.
