Osprey News

We have an on-line, monthly Community Newsletter here in Eglwys Fach, I thought this "news-flash," just received might be of interest -

Re the ospreys, there has been an exciting new development this week.

The BBC have agreed to fund two satellite transmitters to be attached
to the young chicks when they are ringed so that they can follow them
on their migration. The transmitters will provide the public with the
ability to track each osprey to their wintering grounds in west
Africa, and with luck, track them coming back to the UK in two years
time, hopefully to set up breeding nests and sites in Wales and
England. This will be the first time Welsh ospreys have been tracked
and will provide an incredible amount of information on osprey
migration, behaviour and ecology.

However, Dyfi Osprey Project will have to raise the £3000 necessary
for the third and are looking to raise this money from donations. The
chicks will be ringed very shortly so there is urgency to this appeal.
The deadline is 19th July.
