The plan was to end the day watching the Starlings at Aberystwyth. We were in position and Helen Herbert came along with her husband and said that 3 Purple Sandpipers were on the prom wall. So, we just had to have a look, together with Bob who happened to be on the prom.
Helen then came up to us again to say that she had just seen a Swift over the Old Coll and by St Michael's Church and a Swift that was not flying as an ordinary Swift should.
I alerted Bob and he noticed the Swift low over the Old Coll. We then had several good views as it fluttered low over the pier, the old Theol. Coll and end of Pier Street as well as low over the rooftop of the Old Coll. We pronouced it a Pallid Swift.
Chris Bird happened to park by the pier and once alerted looked up as it flew over him. We all agreed that its overall shape, size, colour and behaviour made it a Pallid and hopefully together we can put in a description which will get it accepted as a first for Ceredigion.
Well worth going to the prom by the pier early tomorrow morning as it may linger and well done Helen.
(Meanwhile the Starlings put on a great show and a Peregrine flew in and took one.)
