re Snow geese
Sorry it has taken so long for me to respond to the previous posts on snow geese. There have been two snow geese with the Canada goose flock on the Dyfi for the past 18 months up to September, along with fluctuating numbers of greylag geese (as well as a pink-footed goose, a minima Canada goose, a couple of Chinese geese and various hybrids). I would assume, perhaps wrongly, that these two snow geese are responsible for the sightings elsewhere in the county. Snow geese, along with an alarmingly long list of other geese, are kept in numerous private collections and the majority of records away from Scotland are assumed to be escapes from captivity and, due to the long-staying nature, as well as the location I would assume that these two have also escaped from somewhere locally. The Dyfi's list of exotic waterfowl is rather large as any wanderer from a collection is attracted to the large Canada geese flocks that are there throughout the year.
