There was a steady passage of auks, kittiwakes and fulmars, including a cracking 'blue' phase bird passed New Quay Head this morning between 8.30 and 10.00. Other highlights included single Great Skua, imm Little Gull and imm male Eider. Small number of Common Scoter (3 males) and Red-throated Diver (5) were also noted.
For those who might not know 'blue' phase fulmars are darker than the normal phase having head and rump/tail the same colour as the upper wings (head and rump/tail white in normal phase). The darkest birds also have dark underparts. 'Blue' fulmars tend to occur in the northern part of the species range and are not often seen in Ceredigion waters.
