Hunter becomes hunted

I came across the very fresh remains of a predated short-eared owl at the southern end of Tregaron Bog this morning. The owl had been knobbled by another bird of prey, probably a peregrine or goshawk, both of which I see fairly regularly around the bog, and what was left of it was lying in the snow beneath the hand rail of a small foot bridge. A sad end to a fantastic bird, but that's nature for you; one big food chain - I imagine that the shortie had polished off its fair share of small mammals and birds before it met its end!

Other bits and pieces of interest included a little egret, a flock of at least 250 reed buntings feeding on grass seed and a pair of pintail amongst the usual mallard, teal and wigeon.
