Ynys Hir Godwits

Bit cold this morning with a keen wind blowing straight in the breakwater hide but we were entertained by a fair showing of birds including a large flock of curlew and some smart pintail with a few shoveler, Shelduck and that smart little duck, Goldeneye.  Amongst the curlew were 2 Bar tailed Godwits.  A peregrine was on the other side from Dolmen Las sitting around being mildly harassed by a ringtail harrier (which we took to be a first winter having a russet front and dark underwing secondaries) but whilst we were studying the harrier it quickly collected a small dark bird (prob a starling) for its lunch.
As we exited the hide a fresh corpse had to be examined: a cormorant and clearly a bird kill!
