Recent local sitings

On Tuesday I had good close up views of the Long-tailed Duck at Ynys Las Turn off, I don't usually carry a camera so I did a sketch instead, it hasn't scanned so well

I went back yesterday to check the plumage details and I've probably made the black on the cheeks and neck too big but otherwise its pretty accurate for this individual, it was a bit too distant to get clear views of the wing feathers, I was surprised that the under-wing feather are all black.

No sign of the Spoonbill, my next quarry, but I met up with Ian Boyle a regular visitor here from Solihull and spent a delightful afternoon in his company, we managed to miss the Hen Harrier quartering the fields behind us but did get the Peregrine.

Ian asked to be remembered to all his friends amongst the Ceredigion birding community, he was very comlimentary.
