For 22 years just 1 or 2 pairs of Curlew have come to breed in the upland fields with a lot of rush near us at 800-1000 ft .
I’ve only ever seen one fledgling about 15 years ago and feared these were now just old birds which would eventually die without successfully breeding.
This year there are at least 3 pairs here and in the adjoining square, Does one dare think they are holding their own may have reached their low point of population?
Spotted Flycatchers arrived 3 weeks later than average on the 28th May, 3 chasing each other on the 31st May and a nest built in a stupid place today.
Our friend in Swyddffynnon reported ‘her’ Spotty back on the 31st May also. Sensible birds to wait for the warmer weather.
Today in the garden singing Blackcap and Chiffchaff, new residents for us, plus usual Garden Warbler, Redstart and Willow Warbler.
