How not to rescue a raven

This morning, whilst doing a BBS survey, I came across a ravens nest with a young bird stuck by its foot in baling twine, which in turn was woven in to the nest. The tree was just about climbable with the nest 25 feet up, I decided to go for it. The smell got worse as I got closer to the nest and another youngster was unfortunately dead, also tangled up. It took half an hour to free the bird with a car key the sharpest instrument I had. The youngster was fairly well behaved only pecking a few times and most of the time flapping furiously, then I managed to split my trousers whilst straddling branches to get in a better position to help it. This is the second pair I've split in the last 2 weeks in bird related incidents. Ah well, the birds are worth it!

Other highlights from the southern end of Cors Caron; curlew, male redstart feeding 4 young in an old stone bridge, 19 black headed gulls and a male kestrel.
