Hi Liz,
I photographed "Eddie" back in 2010 when he first arrived , complete with"irons " , but no trace of jesses. The rings are nothing to do with jesses, which are leather in order not to chafe the bird's legs, but either to prove the genuinely captive- bred history, or to identify the individual with BTO etc.One is just metallic , and the other a sort of turquoise. Oddly , no-one ever claimed the bird or reported it lost which is pretty amazing , considering the value. We have had other Goldies escaping in the area round Rads and the owners have been after them like a shot!
No-one has ever actually identified it , but just assumed "escapee"... I have always wondered and would love some "proof"! One wonders if it could have drifted over from the Irish contingent or some such, having been ringed in the nest. I know they are not supposed to be great wanderers , unlike sea eagles , but who knows? I guess he is into his 4th year now and long may his luck continue.
