Ynys Hir
A morning strolling to the new hide on Ynys Fuerig ?, produced some lovely birds in sunny calm weather. About 63 species in all with fem. Hen Harrier, Peregrine, Sparrowhawk, Pink-footed Goose, Water Rail, c10 Lesser Redpoll, pr Gadwall, 2 Greenshank, 4 each of Black and Barwits and a Kingfisher were the stars. The peregrine was around most of the two hours we were there and gave us a great surprise when it all but flew into the hide being chased by a crow. It crashed into the oak immediately to the right of the hide a made off just a split second before I pressed the shutter. Lots of Reed Bunts and 4 species of Tit with butterflies, Silver Ys and dragonflies made for a grand morning. This hide is a real welcome addition to the reserve, well done.
