Cors Caron this morning at 7am one on the flash in front of the waiting room and one on the ponds adjacent to the boardwalk.
I used to worry about seeing waders so early as it means failed breeding but in this case the female Green leaves the freshly hatched chicks for her partner to rear whilst she hurries south!
Tony Cross' Ruffled Feathers blog has a very interesting round-up on the fortunes on some of the special species he has been ringing for years and tonight I note a piece about some Ringed Plover chicks at Borth. I urge you to read it so you can keep an eye out and not step on them!
He also has his work on Nightjars with Paddy Jenks and Mick Green published in British Birds this month which is fortuitous for BB as I was on the point of cancelling my sub given that last month's edition was given over to the detailed analysis of id features for the Slender Billed Curlew…a probably extinct species…esoteric or what!
