Juvenile Med Gull

Wheatear
Went up to Aberystwyth today to try and see some stunning Med Gulls, one of my favourite Gulls, as up on the Wirral we don’t have half as many as you do round here. Because of the sheer numbers that you get I thought that I might get some good views of them, and once again I wasn’t disappointed, I had a Juv and a moulting adult bird fly right over my head! Priceless!
I started off from the south end of the RNLI Building before walking up the River over both bridges and round onto the beach before walking back round to the Pier; which produced a lot more than I was expecting; 128 Med Gulls! I’ve never seen so many! 42 Mallard were on the River along with 5 Mute Swans (2 adults with 3 young), 10 Turnstone were on the rocks below the pier at High Tide, 10c Wheatears were on along the beach and in the fields with 1 Juv Stonechat, most of which (Wheatears), both males and females, appeared to be very buffish birds which leads to think that they were of the Greenland Race, along with passing flock of 6 Ringed Plover and 1 Dunlin with 2 Peregrines soaring over which caused chaos amongst the gulls . All in all another great day of Ceredigion Birding!
