Torrential rain in Tregaron when Karen and I set out for the bird walk rendezvous yesterday morning but we told ourselves "its always better on the coast" and so it was….eventually!
Others were more sensible and stayed at home leaving us to enjoy close views of Chough feeding along the coast path (though only 3 definite young ones), families of young Stonechats and Whitethroats in the bracken and quite a lot of movement on the sea: Manxies, one Gannet, quite a few passing auks, a Kittiwake and Greater Black Back, Cormorant and Shag. We had a bit of fun trying to remember our plant id and watched a hawker dragonfly trying to dry off in the damp breeze whilst below it in the shallow cliff top pond were BIG leeches ! Well flat wormy things anyway..more research needed on these!
Back at Cwm Tydu our coffee stop was enlivened by 2 immature Peregrines chasing around giving the Herring gulls some grief and a couple of Rock Pipits working the strandline. Musical accompaniment courtesy of a few linnets behind the lime kiln.
Re Spotted Flys we saw a family group in Cwm Brefi Friday, at least 6, and here one is sitting in its usual box, so hoping for better weather soon.
