Unsurprisingly not many people turned up for today's walk at a very
wet
Pencwm. Liz and Karen opted for a trip to Llangrannog to seawatch so
Ian
and I ended up walking by ourselves. The river running through the
woods
was worth the journey even if we hadn't seen any birds as it was
in
spate and rushing along all brown and foaming.
The weather proved
to be much better than we had hoped and we remained
dry. There were not many
birds showing but the list was: blackcap, robin
(and plenty of youngsters),
blackbird, song thrush, wren, great black
backed gull, herring gull,
cormorant, whitethroat (with family), linnet,
raven (group of four) chough
(two groups- one of four and one of six),
goldfinch, blue tit, great tit,
long tailed tit, willow warbler, and
buzzard. In the lane at the end of the
walk we met up with Alun who was
originally going to lead this walk and
enjoyed a bird watching chat. He
told us that not long before we arrived he
had very good views of a
sparrowhawk in the fields by the lane.
The
fields did contain butterflies but we saw only meadow browns,
ringlets, and
speckled wood.
