This morning, before the heat got too bad, I walked around the lake and
down
to the local smallholding to buy some eggs. On my quarter mile
walk I saw 22
bird species. The highlights were a mallard with four
ducklings, a tufted
duck with one duckling and four sand martins.
There was also plenty of
insect life- small white, ringlet, meadow
brown, and small heath butterflies
and chimney sweeper moths. The
dragon/damsel flies were plentiful but very
lively and difficult to
identify though I did get very good views of the
black tailed skimmers.
All in all it was far more enjoyable than a trip to
Morrissons!
