Auks at Bird's Rock

I was walking past Bird’s Rock two days ago (5th) and found that the auks were on one of their temporary visits. The razorbills were mainly on the water and the guillemots on the ledges. On a ledge opposite the landward side of Carreg Draenog the guillemots were packed tightly. There were around 50 birds visible with their heads towards the cliff face. The birds nearest the cliff were lying flat beak to tail and packed together like sardines in a tin so that the white under plumage was not visible. Is this normal behaviour?
