At the source of the Arth (Afon Arth)
After a few false starts in Penuwch, I tried Banceithin (1km south of Bethania crossroads). These are eco-friendly holiday cottages and the owner said she had seen Willow Tits previously, but not often. Sure enough, after a 5 minute search, a pair appeared, with the male in full song, and the woman I spoke to took a few minutes out from cleaning to listen to the song. I then tried an area about a kilometre east of there. This is where the river begins I think and there was an extensive area of willows thereabouts. But how to get at it? I asked at a house and luckily the owners were wildlife friendly. They had not heard of Willow Tits before but allowed me to walk through their fields to the edge of the swamp. But no joy. I returned to the house to thank them and the owners came out. They had been in the conservatory drinking coffee and watching the birds on their feeders. Lo and behold, there was a pair of Willow Tits on the feeder!
