As the forecast was ok this pm we decided to give Cross Inn forest a real good go. We started at the extreme west end where we were rewarded with excellent views of a goshawk circling above us. We proceeded back across the forest full of warblers mainly willow, chiffs, a blackcap, tree and meadow pips We went through the first metal gate and turned right.as we got to bottom of slope we heard a distant cuckoo calling.we carried on to bend where 2nd gate is and cuckoo started calling right overhead in mature conifers. Andrew and Tracey both got on the bird which after approx 10 mins flew sw back towards farm and paddocks where it carried on calling. All had good flight views. 25 sp in all really enjoyable afternoon.
