The Dyfi Estuary

Had a great time on the Dyfi estuary today with Mark Norris. A group of gulls roosting just the other side of the Tern posts included nine Sandwich Tern and juvenile Arctic Tern being a county first. Then on to the point where Ringed Plover and Dunlin were well into double figures. Other highlights at the point were three Sanderling, two winter plumage Black- tailed Godwits and five immature Swallows hawking. Later from the Tern posts two juvenile Curlew Sandpiper were feeding on a sand bank in the middle of the estuary.

Next stop was the Marian Mawr hide at RSPB Ynys-hir. Two Greenshank roosting on a narrow island at the far side of the pools and a total of 48 Barnacle Geese feeding on the saltmarsh. Last stop was the Glandyfi lay-by where a female Goosander made an appearance. Mark also had a brief sighting of a Green Sandpiper that was flushed by a Little Egret landing in a gully.
