Hardly a surprising sighting this afternoon; however most if not all males disappear once the breeding season has begun and apparently gather off the coast of Norway to moult. In the autumn, once their ducklings have been reared successfully, they return to our lakes and rivers (Nice strategy lads!). The one at Nant yr Arian looked as if his moult had begun. Are there any other male Goosanders about?
While we were there, 100+ Red Kites put on a really good performance at feeding time and from the track below the ridge, a Tree Pipit showed rather well.
