Young Ornithologist

How satisfying it is to be in a position to pass on your knowledge, little as it is to the next generation. To every sighting I am asked the same question "is it rare"? Yesterday morning I was able to answer "yes" as we watched 2 juvenile male red starts from the kitchen window. The first I've seen in this part of the Rheidol valley. Before too long we were able to see a nuthatch , two very young chiff chaff, and a black cap,and all before breakfast and without the need for bins.We are also able to identify the call of a long tailed tit thanks to the RSPB's range of 30 British birds sold in their shop!
