Showing off our Ceredigion Birds

A good birding friend, Steve Copsey from Hampshire is visiting this weekend and we had a day birding around the Aberystwyth area. Our target were the Welsh specialities and he wasn't disappointed. An early start at Coed Y Bont produced Redstart and Dipper. From there to Clarach for Chough, Raven and obliging Grasshopper Warblers.

After this we headed for the Leri and walked to Glandwr. Reed and Sedge but no singing Cetti's Warbler. The Red Kite feeding spectacular at Nant Yr Arian was next and was amazing as expected. Pied Flycatcher at Pontrhydygroes before ending the day at Cors Caron with Willow Tits feeding young, a distant Tree Pipit and my first Spotted Flycatcher of the year. 72 species for the day with hardly any waders or ducks. Tomorrow an early start at Ynys Hyr so just a couple of pints tonight.
