A little egret in Aberaeron Harbour yesterday, first time
I’ve ever seen one there.
Was watching two magpie fledglings harassing their parent in
the field by my house when a male great spotted woodpecker arrived on a fence
post and immediately one of the fledglings flew over to it. It seems rather
unlikely but I wondered whether the black and white of the woodpecker confused
the magpie into thinking it was a parent. Why would it fly 20 metres to a bird
that posed no threat? Curious behaviour anyway.
