RSPB Ynys-hir BioBlitz

We are holding a BioBlitz at Ynys-hir from 4pm on Saturday 6th August, until 4pm on Sunday 7th August. During this 24 hour period we will be teaming up with experts and members of the public to try and spot and record as many different plant and animal species on the reserve as possible.

The object of the BioBlitz is to record how many species we have while sharing knowledge and enthusiasm for nature with the public. We aim to make it a fun 24 hours with varied activities.

The draft schedule of events is:

Saturday:

  • 4pm – 6pm Bird Walk
  • 9pm – 11pm Bat Walk

Sunday

  • Tree ID – Self guided all day
  • Pond Life – all day drop in activity
  • Bug Life - all day drop in activity
  • 8am – 10am Mammal traps
  • 9am – 11am Moths traps
  • 11am – 1pm Fungi
  • 12pm – 2pm Dragonflies and damselflies
  • 2pm – 4pm Plants and mosses
  • 2pm – 4pm Birds

We need as many people as possible to help out with the BioBlitz, both people who have knowledge in the areas we will survey and those that don’t.

We are open to ideas of other subjects to survey, if you have any suggestions and can provide the knowledge feel free to make suggestions.

Please let me know if you are able to volunteer during the BioBlitz.

Many thanks,

Cathy
