I have tried not allow this blog to become embroiled in conflict but I'm afraid I feel so strongly about this issue that I am posting the following article from The Inked Naturalist.
Turtle Doves targeted in Morocco
This morning I was devastated to learn that a UK based company (Davis and Bowring Chartered Surveyor and Land, Sporting and Estate Agents) has planned a hunting trip to specifically target Turtle Doves. The Turtle Dove a species that is declining rapidly as a breeding species in Europe. This species is facing serious threats to its survival on its breeding ground, during migration and in the wintering grounds. In fact the Turtle Dove is under real threat of global extinction in our lifetime.
It is therefore sickening that the UK based company is condoning the slaughter of this threatened species. On the companies website the state the following:
“Numbers shot are carefully controlled to maintain a healthy wild population”
Given that the current wild population cannot be considered as ‘healthy’, this statement is both inaccurate and impossible!
I would urge that you write to the company concerned and voice your opinion on the subject. The contact details are: sporting@davis-bowring.co.uk
