On Cors Caron

This morning I walked up from Pont Einon, having obtained permission from Iestyn, the reserve manager. No sign of any unusual waders, though I did see 68 Lapwings and 14 Snipe. A Willow Tit was in the willows to the left, 672617. If you stand on the bridge there is a large area of willow and birch to the right of the river. Iestyn had told me this belonged to Pen y Bont farm. I met an 82 year old man there sitting in a very posh new dairy/office. The office was glass fronted and elevated, giving grand views looking north. I explained my business. I saw there were some binoculars by a computer. I asked if he was watching the birds and he laughed at this absurd notion and said he liked to watch the comings and goings on the bog. He told me how the view used to be so much more open with far fewer trees. He also told me that when the trains still ran, long before you could see or hear them coming, you could see surface water on the bog rippling a little. He said I could camp on their land all day if I wished but fortunately this wasn't necessary. A 20 minute scamper revealed Willow Tits at 674613 and 678614.
